As promised in my Power Modules suggestion, here is my proposal for a series of items called "Energy Field". These EF would fall into the Shield slot, and would basically be a field that still surrounds the mech, but instead of protecting it augments the energy and/or heat the user's weapons decrease on the enemy. It would be quite the interesting addition, as mechs would no longer have to be based in HP/resistance modules on the higher levels. Of course, using an EF means you cannot use a traditional shield.

The increase would be by a percentage: say the lvl1 EF would be a rare item (comparating it with both heat/energy lvl1 shields) so the energy EF would increase energy damage by 20%, for a cost of 1 energy for each 2 energy it increases. The heat EF would be 1 heat for 3, and then each level increases the percentage, similar to the shields. However this number is up to discussion ofc, if it fits for the feature or not, and then again the devs have the final word on it. So then, discuss!

I dont see why a boost effect on heat would be cheaper than a boost effect on heat, as heat damage is in general more desirable than energy damage. The energy shield is more expensive because you regenerate energy every turn for free, while heat is cumulative and takes an action to regain.

Shouldnt the boost to heat damage caused cost heat rather than energy? Consider most weapons/droids causing heat damage cost heat, the very powerful exception being flipmix. Using energy to cause heat damage would be a very powerful effect, like the flipmix effect.
So there should be two 'energy field items' - an 'electric energy field', boosting energy damage and costing energy to power, and a 'heat energy field' boosting heat damage and costing heat to power the field

Another point, shields can be knocked down, how would the energy field be knocked down? Maybe when you run out of energy (electric field) or overheat (heat field)?

This is exactly the idea proposed; however, I get from your entire post that you'd also like an energy field that uses energy to boost heat damage, and an EF that uses heat to boost energy damage, correct? Much like some of the drones atm... The idea would be interesting; however, energy for energy and heat for heat is what's being suggested for now. And yes, indeed I think I should flip the numbers on the heat/energy EFs, so the heat EF boosts 2 for 1, then the electric EF boosts 3 for 1. I will switch it after some more feedback though, see what the people think about it.

I think this is a interesting idea and am not sure how this got passed me without noticing. I am, however, a little bit confused on it though. Does it only increase damage of a certain type or does it also decrease the energy ( or increase heat) of the other players mech too?

I know it a little late to probably ask a question, but it is worth a shot I guess... Plus I don't want to take someone else idea and pass it off as my own.

Going to have to vote no. In the higher up levels the guy who gets the first hit starts off with a huge advantage because the enemy doesn't have time to deploy a shield or counter these hits. Say I pull the enemy mech to me and then use call of lightening (highest lvl energy sword) that would normally do 220+70 damage, so a total of 290. If you're basing it on shield you would have to add another 60% on top of that making it a total of 464 damage (320 being the lowest possible damage). That's most likely most of the enemy health gone right there (unless they choose to stack hp instead of worrying about shields) in which case it would do half hp on first hit.

I feel that the energy field concept wouldn't work with most rare builds. A lot of weapons use up your available resources quite a bit and these would most certainly probably be best with kits. Will this type of shield be completely useless or completely undermine the ideas of using other shields?
