so we need to pay them for something as simple as a color mod which should have always been in the game and should not cost anything .

Quite simple in my opinion, aesthetic changes are the best things to charge actual money. It allows those that care about such things to support the game while not hurting or unbalancing the game for those that don't want to or simply can't afford to support at the moment.
