Hello,
In reality, do we see electricity damage metal? The answer is no, but it conducts it.
However i got a suggestion that is as close to the real world so here it is:
"If the opponent gets hit by an energy weapon/drone and his/her energy goes down to '0', the opponent will only be able to deal 1/2 (50%) damage of its weapons and drone. Which makes the energy mech user (or the one that drained the energy) will be much more invulnerable to its opponents attacks. However it does not reduce heat damage nor energy damage."
However this status effect will only last until the opponent manages to regenerate enough energy and not have it depleted.
With this effect, energy mechs will be more sidelined as being a defensive type.
Theory: the bonus energy damage override his/her opponents by giving its weapons a shock of energy weakening the weapons and drone functions.

I read it. It could work. It would be nice if energy mechs did less real damage and regeneration was alot more annoying to them.
The only problem I see is how that is like an intermediate phase when compared to heat which is essentially a 100% reduction in damage.
Given the choice between the two, defensive heat mechs win out over defensive energy mechs. I'm all for making the flavors more palatable as sometimes the gameplay doesn't always seem balanced among the three colors, but if they are too similar, then creativity is somewhat decreased. It's bad enough that the mythicals we currently have lead to only a dozen or two builds at the upper echelons, and I'd hate to see the colors blended together to look like each other and essentially become "Same build, different color".
