Besides think about it, let's say you put loads of items into that recipe and when you are 99% of finishing it... you get same legendary item from the box, that would really suck!
Maybe if you could change the item at the last moment it would work, but then it would beat the purpose of the item box and affect the game's finances - you won't need to buy any tokens ever again, you would just build your mech as you wish for free.
When a recipe is not needed anymore, It can be used as upgrading materials.
Assume you have 1,000,000 credits, then you get average 18 legendary items.
If you purchase 1680 tokens, it have same average by gold box.
But legendary items are so many types from 15 to 30 level.
Therefore, even If I have 1680 tokens, I'm not going to gamble tokens. It's reckless.
Instead, I will buy power kits because it can raise total 168,000 powers and accumulate them.
If a recipe requires 168,000 power, I willing to consume them all.
I believe that you don't say it's easy to make a recipe without tokens.
Probably some people will purchase more power kits and may consume powers.
Therefore I think it can be another purchasing option.
