issue with segmented sleep, is that you MUST keep to the cycle and not miss a 'nap' or the entire thing will screw up. this makes it impossible for people attending school, college, or any sort of job that requires anything longer than a 4 hour shift. as awesome as it sounds, tis simply not practical for modern life.

I have had weird sleeping schedules for weeks on end for Battledawn when playing M1.. I'd sleep about 6 hours a night in 50 minute intervals. Sleep 50, wake 10, sleep 50 wake 10 etc etc. Would end up with about 6 hours of sleep and feel fully refreshed. Mind you, this was during exam periods so I was also busy studying all day.

I actually read this study 5-6 months ago. I tried segmented sleep, i had mock exams coming up then so i thought that i could sleep for 4 hours, be awake for 5-6 hours then sleep for 4 hours again. I learnt that it doesnt work too well for me as im at my deepest point of sleep at 4 hours, i can in fact sleep for just 3 hours though and that is what i do now. It took a lot of experimenting on myself, 6 hours works aswell but you feel quite tired and sleepy after waking up, i researched the reason for that and i know it but i cant be bothered to explain it. For me, now that i have my real exams, i tend to pull all nighters and have a couple 2.5-3 hour sleep segments in between.

Segmented sleep isn't about taking naps during the day, it's about breaking up your sleep cycle, e.g. instead of sleeping 8 hours straight at night, go to bed an hour earlier, sleep 4 hours, be awake for 1, then sleep for 4 more. Your normal daily routine can still continue as normal.

The problem w/ segmented sleep is you have to train your body to instantaneously go into REM sleep otherwise you won't feel refreshed at all...more so exhausted.

i think maybe segmented sleep would work for me, as i feel even more tired waking up from a 7-8 hour sleep than a 2 hour one. it's just not practical though.

I feel more focused if I sleep less tbh... have only slept 2 hrs a day for this week, yet I'm having a lot of things done...
probably due to stress for the most part, but unlike being stressed I do everything carefully and not rushing things...
