The squad was hit by an Ion Cannon at the same time I pulled it back. I can send the squad to everything and it registers as being inside the gate.

Earth 2 @ N:20282 E:21241

Why am I so prone to bugs :(. First the attacking myself and now this... what next, have a squad change direction mid-flight?

Its ok ;) Finding bugs make the game better ;) Reported this to admins, if the admins are generous could give you some small amount of tokens for finding 2 bugs already :D

Same thing happened to me numerous times; doesn't bother me much, but I often forget about the squad and I have to look around for it, which can be annoying at times.
