once I hit rank 3 I started getting rekt on multiplayer by all the rank 1s so I needed a self esteem boost from the campaign.

1000$ in power kits should get you enough exp to have +15 weapon and armor. =)

Though mythical gear is in season now.

None really, just time. Spending money for mythicals, exp, helps greatly, but it is certainly not a requirement.
