Should an era go out with a whimper? Should alliances sit back and watch a "deal" negotiated to hand someone a victory?

I suppose its all part of the game. But it occurs to me that sitting back and just accepting it without so much as lifting a figure is stupid. What have you to lose? Why would you allow an era to end with you sitting on units, and you're NOT the victor? For rank? One tick after an era ends, rank means nothing.

Oh, sure you can say "I ended in the top 50 players, or top 25....but so what?
I've seen players who have engaged in a mere dozen battles this entire era with VERY high ranks. Is that Battle Dawn? Stay "friendly" join the herd of subs that are "friendly" avoid conflict, gain rank, and....lose.

Just take it?

Doesn't seem very Battle Dawn to me. If I am going to lose I am going to do it with all forces spent, my rank gone, and a smile on my face.

I prefer to go out fighting.

At tick 866 an offensive was launched in an attempt to capture a relic and at least delay the end of the game. I have no illusions about the chances of success. But I do know one thing.

I will make a game of it. I will spend my units telling those who make deals that at least one of us won't just lay down and take it.

Will the outcome change? Probably not. Not when more than half the world is against you. But perhaps next time they "negotiate" a win, they won't be so quick to congratulate themselves...

LOL...its a game, and I intend to make it one. Sorry, if that offends any one. It's not personal.

Good luck with whatever you are doing. I know you want a fight but I guess you started a bit late.

Words of wisdom indeed!

Yes, way to late, I'm afraid. But it really wasn't about that. I had no illusions that we could win. I had all those units and nothing to conquer :D There seemed only two choices. Sit back and watch the era end, and Mars 4 with it....or "spend" the units.

So, I spent my units. (...and how). But I got to coordinate one last battle with 7 other alliance mates who were new to the game, and hadn't coordinated ANY big battles. We planned and executed. AND it was a good plan, and well executed I must say. Everyone did everything they were supposed to right as planned.

We learned quite a lot, even though we lost (to a vastly superior force). But we knew going into it that we hadn't a snowballs chance in hell of pulling it off.

But with less than 47 ticks left in the world what are you going to do....at least it was dramatic for a dozen ticks. AND it warms my heart to think I gave the "5000 sub-alliance colonies" of the attacked something to do as the final ticks wind down for Mars 4. Now they can scurry around the world taking my ops and conquering our colonies :D

So mission accomplished! We as a team learned something, we had fun planning and executing our plan. It was a lost cause, a true underdog fight...but aren't those the one we cheer for in the movies, and literature. For 8 ticks we were the 300 Spartans standing in defiance of the massive armies of Persia! ...and like them, we were crushed.

It was a win in my book.

Haha. Win indeed!! :)

Sadly this is Mars4's last era. Its being shut down. See you around on other servers if you will continue. I usually play Earth or Mars.

Hi qweevox!

We had some differences in the beginning of m4, you remember? But after knowing more of each other we had a nice round together.

I agree to what you say. We are here to play a war game with lot of diplomacy, strategy and teamspirit.

I have the same problem now at the end of the .de server era. As rank #1 player here i (and more other active players, also lot of them new to this game) don't want to finish this first AND last era without only one real battle.

I tried to teach some new players this exiting game, but all ends without any competition. I feel ashamed and cheap not to be able to show them more.

Good luck for you!

Hey Dax,
I watched you fighting around the world LOL. If you remember I reached out to see if we could coordinate an offensive against one particular alliance north of our main colony. I can't remember who they were now. But you gobbled them up (and all their crystals! LOL) all by yourself. I was hoping for some table scraps (crystals).

I would fight with you any time. Four of us have moved to Mars 3 (faster more crowded world) Monica is there with another alliance, still not playing serious :)....but kicking butt and taking names.

Somehow I don't think this one will end in a negotiated win, but who knows. If you get board come on over. Like I said, I'd like to fight on your team any day! I'm under the same name and the same avatar.

Cheers!
