The universe is vast, but is it vast enough for other intelligent life to exist?

It's impossible not for life to exist somewhere else in the galaxy, let alone the whole universe. It's just too expansive. And of course, there should be a few sentient races as well; to think of us as the only intelligent life is simply being close-minded.

With the sheer number of planets out there, it is logical to assume that a small percentage of those are capable of supporting life.

the universe is larger than our minds can comprehend and is always getting bigger honestly i believe that thinking we are the only intelligant life in the universe is just absurd

I'd say they're a mathematical certainty

I think there must be. But our searches all assume they need water + oxygen like us. Maybe they breathe CO2 and can't drink.

All life needs something to 'drink'; water, or any similar liquid, acts as a staging ground for many biologal processes critical to survival and proliferation. Anyways, all life should be based on one liquid or another (which should be water, but it could vary), a food/energy source, and a relatively hospitable temperature.

Especially on the other side of the universe.

I said water, and similar liquids.
And no, it isn't possible for a lifeform to perform bodily functions absolutely without liquids for an extended period of time. Even known xerophiles, which can survive a severe lack of liquid water here on Earth, need a certain amount of water to live, so why should it be different for other creatures, just because they're alien? They need some kind of liquid for biological processes, as I said. Without a liquid of similar composition to water, organic components cannot absorb and process nutrients, and perform basic functions.
Anyways, the only way to find out for sure is to see a living sample. Unfortunately, we can only predict what we're likely to see out there from creatures here, but many are certain that for life to exist, there should be some kind of solvent involved to start it up and maintain it.

MmCm6 is right, all life forms need a liquid to survive.
But back to do they really exist.
My first thought was the same as well, there must be life out there, the universe is huge! But after watching all these science shows and doing more research, I'd have to change my mind. Life is picky, in simple terms. The reason we haven't found other life yet is because the conditions just aren't right. They must be perfect in every way to start and maintain life. If were were closer to the sun, it may have been too hot at first. But like we said, life needs liquid, most likely water. Earth picked up water when it was being formed, it was moving and crashed through several comets containing water. Earth was also formed at the right distance from the sun, not too hot, not too cold. Our sun is also the right size. If it were bigger, we would be probably a lava planet. There are many other factors that are needed. It's like throwing 100 dice and hoping all of them will land on the same number. Everything must work, or it all collapses. So from this, I would conclude that alien life MAY exist elsewhere.
PS: I've been watching too much of How the Universe Works...
