Hey guys. So let's try playing mafia online, shall we?
First off, a brief (it won't be brief) summary of mafia. It's a fairly intimidating game, but really REALLY simple. Here's how it's played.
Say, for example, we have 12 players. These 12 people live in a village...first, let's examine player roles. All players have the power to vote to lynch.
'good' side
3 townspeople: ordinary. Derp.
2 doctor: every night, tries to save one person each. If that person was murdered by a mafia, he is saved and comes back to life.
1 detective: every night, chooses one person to suspect. Host tells detective if the suspect was the mafia or not.
Mafia #1:
Consists of 3 mafias. In the day, they pose as innocent townspeople, but in the night, they agree on a person to kill.
Mafia #2:
same as #1.
Nobody knows what other people's roles are...only their own. Unless you are the mafia--in which case, you know who the other mafia in your faction are.
Lynching: every day, the players will vote on a person to kill. These votes will be public. Host gives players summary of what happened in the night before lynching.
Now...let's examine a sample game, shall we?
Day 0: 12 people sign up. Roles are assigned.
Townspeople: Todd, Tom, Tim
Doctor: Doc, Dom
Detective: Holmes
Death Eaters (Mafia 1): Al, Adam, Atticus
FACK: Duo, Tenk, Ferret
Night 0:
Doc saves Duo
Dom saves Tom
Holmes accuses Todd--host replies incorrect
DE kill Tom
FACK kill Al
Day 1: Host reveals that Tom was attempted to be murdered, but was saved. Al was murdered.
Public vote. Ironically, Dom gets voted to be lynched and so dies and is also removed from game.
Night 1:
Doc saves Tim
Holmes accuses Atticus--Host reveals to holmes Atticus is a member of DE
DE kill tenk
FACK kill Tom
Day 2: Host reveals that tenk and Tom were murdered in the night.
During vote, Holmes tries to get everyone to vote Atticus, who he knows is the mafia. However, the mafia see that Holmes is the detective and so votes Holmes. There is a tie vote 4-4, Holmes-Atticus, so nobody is lynched.
Night 2:
Doc saves Holmes
Holmes accuses Doc--incorrect
DE kill Holmes
FACK kill Doc
Day 3: Doc is killed, Holmes was saved.
In public vote, with mafia outnumbering townspeople, Holmes is lynched 4-3.
Night 3:
DE kill Tim
FACK kill Atticus
Day 4: Host reveals Tim and Atticus were killed in the night.
With only Todd, Al, Duo and Ferret left in game, and Duo and Ferret both in FACK, the vote goes 2-1-1 and Todd is lynched.
Night 4:
FACK kills Al
DE kills Duo
Day 4: Al and Duo were murdered. Ferret survives, and so FACK wins.
note that all night actions were achieved by messaging host privately. Public voting takes place by posting on the game thread.
