Ive destroyed dragons at outpost a few times but i never received a destroy a dragon achievement. I've tried destroying dragons on its way to some other destination but there is no button for it. why? does it only work if they launch it against me or somthing?

Yes~ you can only ion dragons if they are sent to you or your alliance
