Should there be a age of consent or should it just be whenever the parents feel there kids are ready or the kids choice?
( I thought of this after reading through the incest debate)

I find that kids who come on here are generally more mature than you would expect. There shouldn't be an age of consent. Hey, kids can access porn and other things so why shouldn't they be able to access this? The occasional pedophilia and incest references should have no bearing on who can come here.

That's how I have thought about it, but there are +'s and -'s I just made this topic so we can hear both sides

i feel it should be the child's decision. if it were the parents decision some would never let it happen from being over protective, and i think most kids have enough sense by a certain time if they should or not.

You cannot say Child's choice, Parent's choice. People don't always adhere to legal age or ask their parents permission before they have sex. I just feel most do it because of peer pressure than actually needing or wanting sex when they do for the first time.
Anyway that being apart, you need legal age to convict adults that have sex with children. You cannot condone a 40 year old man having sex with a 12 year old and say it was the child's choice. That will be ridiculous.

Dude its intuitive. You cant have such fixed agenda. The child should be aware of what sex is all about, but have sex after a certain legal age, where he/she is mentally and emotionally mature. What the parent can do is educate the child and make him/her aware of things about sex and everything else that is related including negative effects of unprotected early sex like teenage pregnancies etc

Well, I think its the individual's choice already but legally if it was consensual on both sides and they are within the same age group, then should it be a crime?

who knows better how mature a child is than their parent ...
it's parents job to educate their children about diseases pregnancy and responcibilityes what sex comes with
so when parents say your ready then you are ready

Agreed. But it rarely works that way. Sometimes parents tend to be overprotective and fail to consider their children to be mature enough even if they are. Thats why there is a legal age.
