Because you are the child of a weak minded generation who have been overexposed to instant entertainment. You cannot deal with the silence of your own mind because you haven't had to learn how to, so you optionally have entertainment forced into your ears or projected into your line of sight, requiring zero effort.

E.G when I'm on a long train journey, when I'm working out, and when I'm chilling out after a hard days work with a few bottles of magners. My post was aimed at people who "can't stop listening to music" as quoted from the original post.
