Oooo my first ever strategy guide and it only took me 4 years of testing to see the theory come true. As seen in E3 Europe is almost next to impossible to hold down. I've been a member of four alliances located in Europe and only one was successful (RO) and lasted until the end of the round (through havoc) breaking the top 6 (which was a few years ago ~2009).
Why was this alliance so successful while all other alliances now have a struggle holding down Europe?
Well, for one thing we had complete control of the island with very active and skilled members who communicated often when online (before alliance chat). Another was a solid establishment of subs that were loyal (RO1, RO2, RO3). These subs had already been located in our hive and thus building OP to fill up any open space became no issue.
Another large factor that comes into play now today was that back then there was a link where you could send troops to in western Alaska/Land Bridge and they would be teleported over the land bridge to Eastern Kamchaka/Russia/Mongolia.
That loophole no longer exists and sadly it puts more focus that an alliance in NA can only get to an Alliance in Russia by crossing over Europe. Europe has become the Middle Earth and a battleground now.
But whats my addiction with Europe that makes me locate my colony there every era of Earth Fast tick?
The benefit of the Island (estimated ETA for attacks on island OP 6-9ticks), overview of those below you and the fact that it opens up to be a great farm territory for some reason especially when you get into northern Africa or Saudi Arabia and Western Asia.
But the one big mistake that alliances make that happens every era, they get to greedy. They expand farther than they need and end up dealing with way more issues than before. Earlier in the Era we started to attack SRBA and SRB1, we were successful and began to spread South with high moral, once in Africa we took over most of North Africa but kept a boundary and didn't expand eastward. But why? Well, PAIN has their hive in lower Europe so we didn't want to cause any suspicion.
Then as we grew outward we left little spots open to attack by rogues, enemies and other colonies. PA1N was one of those groups who almost pulled us into the brink of war with several attacks cutting right up into our hive. I didn't realize what that meant, so i arranged a peace talk and got things sorted out.
Now here comes the fun part, we shared Europe with FIST, LOTR and subs, as well as NWO. I noticed LOTR was taking advantage of the Eastern part of Russia while NWO sat there watching everything go down. FIST was running from HULK and when HULK came over they attacked not only FIST but NWO who almost got wiped out.
As time went on and relics began to get released, CoV had moved into Europe with some squads and began an assault on the relic. While all this mayhem happened we never truly secured our part of Europe,and when SRB launched their first attacks I realized that we expanded too far and let our forces spread out. This made our armies vulnerable and unresponsive to a large invasion.
LOTR discovered that letting a gate be built in a hive by an ally can shift to war and ultimately force them out of Europe. FIST realized that running to Europe only gave HULK more desire to expand Westward as far as Norway. The entire continent last night became a battleground and it looked like havoc because that's what Europe has become,an open battleground with alliances looking to expand from sea to shining sea.
Each alliance LOTR, FIST and WK made the big mistakes and to this tick NWO sits there still standing despite being wiped out, despite the ongoing war that has been happening for the last 70 ticks, and despite the fact that Europe is one hell of a place to hold on to.
Reason why: NWO kept neutral/friendly diplomacy with surrounding alliances, they never got greedy and made any real enemies up until HULK (who is gone and attacked them), they managed to cherry pick conquers and noobs, raise a solid non-inf based army and lastly establish a loyal sub to help fill up open space.
They did everything that we did in RO the era we finished 6th and now they are close to breaking top 12 and honestly I can see them become a top 10 alliance because of the smart game play they've had so far this era so good for them!
SO a quick summary: Ways to hold Europe successfully: Don't make enemies (or in some cases even friendlies) with alliances nearby or in your hive, Have a good sub (key to being a successful alliance and having more members), Don't be greedy and go beyond your boundaries KNOW YOUR BOUNDARIES (keep it in Europe and build OP such as gates or radars to keep transportation fast and effective), Don't let anybody (friendly or neutral) build OP in your hive if you don't have any located near them, and lastly make sure that you have a solid army that is evenly spread out (keep 4-5 squads in a gate between 3-5 gates for a high ranked alliance to be effective in a war or a rebellion).
