I don't mind helping with the wiki page if you're low on peoples (although I have no idea where it actually is).
I'm not on Skype, so PM me on this forum if you want me.
And can I just use the same login details on here for the wiki? Or would I need to sign up to it?

Ladder battles are just the normal multiplayer battles, the one you do by clicking the multiplayer battle button in the main interface.
Private battles are a bit more complex though, you need to have a friend to battle first, and also you need that friend to be online. Than you go to the friends section(the icon with two people in it). There, you select the friend and click at invite to battle button. In the same screen, you can click the icon with a plus to ad a friend using friend id. You can also add friends from the leaderboard...
