1. The conquered player has to pay his conqueror a certain percentage of the resources that he is producing every tick.
2. If you are conquered, you are still able to construct buildings and train units.
3. You are no longer capable of conquering other colonies, or castles on fantasy servers, while you are conquered. However, you are still allowed to take any outpost that you may see.
4. When you want to free your colony, there are three ways to go about this. You can either rebel from your conqueror, in which you have to wait 24 total ticks without producing any resources during this time. Or you could build units and conquer your conqueror. Or someone else could conquer your conqueror in turn freeing you. Once you are freed, you are able to be reconquered immediately so make sure you are able to defend yourself.
If you need any other help, you should apply at this link for a mentor. They will teach you everything about the game that you will need to know.

Good answer, but there is also a fourth way although less common. Your conquerer can liberate u and set u free without having to rebel or fight. Reasons for doing this can vary greatly among the different types of players, and the majority will not liberate u but some will. Try a diplomatic approach. Ask ur conquerer to be considered for liberation. Perhaps join a brother alliance. Maybe offer up a free crystal in exchange for freedom (a few ways to get crystals early even while being conquered). Or u can beg - hehe. Not always going to work, but there r times when a colony is liberated freely. Never hurts to try. NOTE: Try this route before rebelling or fighting ur conquerer and not after as the other attempts at freedom may upset him/her and guarantee a refusal to liberate.

What i do if i start a world late is a dont build units,i just build my structures and then when my sheild(protection) runs out i wait until someone conquers me and then i build up all of my units then if my conquereor isnt very powerful i scan him and if i have more units and better units i attack back which if you win you become unconquered and he becomes conquered by you and then everyone he conquered is liberated
