Yeah, I know the most popular proportion for upgrade is 3/0/7.. but what is the best for weapon? I never know if i build concussive soldiers, explosive vehicles or beam tanks or any of the other 8 possibilities of combination.

What do you like the most?

It is mostly determined by the armies you are predicting to fight.
Some players choose a combination which utilises chassis bonus to the maximum (Soldiers +25% vs Vech. Vech +25% vs. Tank).
Using this, they build 1/3 of their army as Soldiers with beam weapons, 1/3 of their army as Vehicles with Explosive weaponry, and Tanks with Concussive weaponry (Soldiers won't get a bonus against them).

The best thing you can do is choose your target, and utilise scans (Both basic and advanced) to estimate what units they have and build according to this.

Also some people find it more efficient to build 100% tanks, as they have more hp, and do not die as quickly as soldiers/vehicles. This means their damage remains higher in later rounds, as the damage you do does not relate to your Health.
Example to help you understand...
A range tank with 12hp/12dmg may get 11 damage done to it in one round and will still hit 12 the next round. 3 range soldiers 12hp/12dmg TOTAL, may get hit for 11 damage, and two will die meaning the next round only 4dmg will be done.
This is quite a controversial method however as it can be defeated quite easily if someone specialises against you and utilises the chassis bonus and attacks you with vehicles, who will all be 100% explosive as they have scanned you :) And you may have 33%concus 33% beam 33% Explosive, which really results in you getting well... Owned.

It is recommended you have Two chassis types in your army to prevent attackers specialising against you.

Hope this helps,
And if anyone disagrees or finds mistakes please post how you think it should be done :)

when a round starts i use all infantry until i get the area around my colony safe after that i build an equal number of squads of each type ex: 3 infantry squads 3 vehicle squads 3 tank squads using all types of weapons
but you should have at least two types because what if some plans ahead of time to attack you specifically they could make a large specific force and wipe you out

as for the unit types each has their advantages pick what fits you best

infantry have advantages like quick and cheap to replace, quick to heal after a battle, can easily take down newbs, good in short wars, cheap to move large armies around

vehicles are a good balance when used in combination with tanks (can take out less defended or less important targets freeing up tank squads) or infantry (can give decent power to an all infantry army especially against tanks)

tanks high damage and hp, more likely to live through battles, good for long wars

I use the range/armor combo with laser inf, exp veh, and conc tanks. I make an equal amount of all of the squads.

The only time I change that is if I know I am about to fight some vehicles I might make 2 or 3 extra inf squads, but later I even it out again.
Also, if I know the entire enemy alliance has tanks I make mostly exp veh for quite some time.

At the beginning of the round I usually build concussive - Most people have inf around.

But mainly it depends.

Concussive - Strong against inf.

Beam - Strong against vehics

Explosive - Strong against Tanks

I usually have a mix of all.

I've found it most effective to use 2:1/range:armour.

So basically,
10 armoured infantry : 20 ranged infantry
5 armoured calvalry/vehicles/whatever : 10 ranged calvalry
3 armoured heavy/tanks : 7 ranged heavy

However I would suggest sticking with mostly calvalry and heavies (I'm only using these terms because I play mostly on Fantasy worlds..) because infantry die easily with their low HP. But they're perfectly fine for the first couple hundred ticks in an era.

And remember, use weapon types to your advantage.
For example, a calvalry unit with the crushing upgrade would have a 50% advantage against a heavy unit (assuming it doesn't have spear weaponry).

i have lead a rank 2 alliance full of newbs =P
so ranks mean nothing ^,^

but 30/0/70 armor/dmg/range mix
then have mostly beam (most people use veh)

Not to oppose your strategy Jason, but to the TC, I do not suggest doing that. While you get all the bonuses, if he goes up against an all vehicle army of exactly the same amount of weaponry, he will lose.

This will happen:

This is because the vehicle army has different types of weaponry, and the bonus army has different types of chassis whereas the vehicle army is just that, a vehicle army, so only the infantry has a full effect on the vehicle army.

About the proportion of weaponry to use... I just go equal but if I'm in a war and I know that an enemy builds a certain way i.e. tanks only, I build a few extra squads more of explosive units. I do equal out after the war however.

In the past I have used:

Infantry: 5,10,15

Vehicle: 7,5,3

Tanks: 4,3,3

I promtly stopped using this format after my army of 600+ units was slaughtered.

I now use:

Infantry:10,0,20

Vehicle: 5,0,10

Tanks: 3,0,7
