anyone got suggestions for what makes a good starting location?

My friend, it does not matter where you start. It does matter where you end. It does not matter why you chose this game, but it does matter why you chose to win this game. It does not matter how you start this game; it does matter how you end this game. 8-)

I guess that pretty much sums it up. Now, go on and prove yourself.

if i was you i would visit the Adopt a Noob Center, which can be found a bit farther down the active topics.

On Mars, I prefer to place on the large top left island and have my team spread out over that to take as many resource ops as possible.
On Earth it would have to be South America as my preference.
On Fantasy I like the bottom right island.
All for the same reason.
Of course if there is a boosting team already there I would recommend going somewhere else.

yeah, ANOTHER GAME...this is a TOXIC community, they dont like new players, they bully A LOT...you will find out. Check out the reviews on youtube and other gaming sites. YOur best bet is to find a game where people have lives and dont resort to name calling and hate every battle.

If there really is a need of a good suggestion, I recommend that you start at the location specified by your alliance to assemble. Got no alliance? You should join one before the era starts. It is important that you and your alliance must stick together as one. There is no point starting off alone in a good location but end up getting conquered. (Yes that happened to me too before).

Should this not be what you prefer, I suggest you start either near a resource site or in an area where there are no neighboring colonies within at least 300 kilometer radius. If you want to secure a resource boost immediately, go place your colony near a resource outpost. If you want to secure your colony for a steady growth or secure a chance to repel hostile activity efficiently, make sure you are not near more than at least 2 suspicious colonies.

I hope that this helps. The Adopt-a-Newb center has got some greater tips in store for you too.
