The school uniform is a controversial topic. From kindergarten to high school, it is mandatory in many school in the United States. How do school justify it and please give me your opinions.

I think if it were done in a public school it would be a violation of self-expression. However this usually happens in private schools as a way to ensure that dress code is followed. (In particular, this is done is religious schools)

I think it is acceptable for a private school to do it, I guess. You are paying money to go there.

The uniform helps to blend in or to submit to religious and social distinctions. It could ease tensions in a heterogeneous group.
Wearing a school uniform has certainly some advantages. But it also has disadvantages: this does not please the creative kids like me who want to have their own style of dress.
The uniform does not encourage individualism. This explains the decline in half of schools in Europe. For or against, the debate never ends.
You are right Jake, finally someone who is okay with me on this.
Wearing my own clothes, I am trying to express myself, I am free. But requiring the suit, my freedom of expression is reached and my personality is partially masked.

I'm in favour of school uniforms.
One reason, is because opposes the stain on society that is fashion (and the problem of fashion, that you either have to spend ridiculous amounts on overpriced rubbish, just to fit in, or be ridiculed because you're different).
Uniform is a great equalizer, and the point of school isn't to exclude people, but to include them (okay, the point of school is to learn, but you get my point).

I also find the whole 'no individuality' argument flawed, because people express their individuality by what they do, and how they act. If someone can only express themselves by what they wear, they cant have much of a personality.

this isnt normally the case, only preppy people spend a ton of money on clothes. most people just dress casual like i do. T-shirt jeans and when it's cold a Columbia jacket (yes i admit the jacket is expensive and a style but it helps with my looks)

my opinion: who gives a duck? there are hundreds of better things to debate about than "waah i don't want to wear a polo shirt everyday".
