Will there be a special 'zombie' unit that is cheap and the equivalent to half an infantry? "Spitter" for ranged, "Exploder" for damage and "Normal" for Armour.

With one special Zombie chasis.

Or am I just going to have to imagine that those ranged tanks and the hordes of infantry are zombies.

No nothing like that but we will have super units all others will not. Nice idea though
