Below I will post a handful of my discoveries showing the vast mysteries that abound in the BD battle system. I don't want to use up much space, so I'll only post a couple battles. I hope that this example will convince you to take part in researching the mechanics of the game with me. A PM will do, give me your MSN if you have one.

Sorry about how crudely done the diagrams are, the program doesn't seem to register spaces well so I had to use "---"

Please read the whole report. The first example shows stuff veterans will already know, the second half gets weirder.

TD = Theoretical Damage, the damage you see on the stats. Chassis and weapon type bonuses not included.

HL = Health Loss, the total hp of all units killed that round. Actual health loss would be a slightly different number, as units can lose portions of their health without dying and showing up KIA on the battle report.

VBA = Vehicle Beam Armor (4 units)
MCA = Mech Concussive Armor (2 units, my side)
MCR = Mech Concussive Range (3 units, my side)

TD HL VBA MCA MCR HL TD
4 vs 2 3
-------------------------------------
16---1--- R1--- 2--- 3--- 36 (3units*12damage)
16--- 2--- R2--- 2--- 3--- 36
8 --- 16--- 3 --- R3 --- 2 --- 3--- 48(3*12)+(2units*6damage)
4 --- 16 --- 4 --- R4 --- 2--- 3 --- 48

At the end of the fight, I had one damaged armored mech with
9 hit points. 9-24=15, for fifteen total points of damage. For 12 damage
received to come out as 15 damage, vehicles must have a chassis bonus
of exactly 25% against mechs ASSUMING BEAM VEHICLES HAVE NO DAMAGE PENALTIES AGAINST MECHS - That is, assuming using the wrong weapon on the wrong enemy does no damage penalty.

Nows where it gets interesting. The mechs are clearly inflicting massive amounts of damage on the vehicles, but only a small fraction of it is recieved. Assuming mechs do half damage against enemies they are using the wrong weapon against:

Half Damage Health Lost
36/2=18 16
18 16
24 16
24 16

For easier view, make it cumulative:

Damage Health Lost
18 16
36 32
60 48
84 64

Alright, now everything makes sense. Vehicles using the wrong weapon against tanks do 125% of their total damage. Mechs using the wrong weapon against vehicles do 50% damage. Wait a minute! Isn't a 125% bonus just for your chassis a little bit more than we thought?

ICA = Infantry Concussive Armor (65 units) IBA is same with beam (8 units)
IBR = Infantry Beam Range (2 units, my side)
MCA, MCD, MCR = Mech Concussive Armor, Damage, and Ranged, 1, 4, and 1 units respectively, all of which are on my side.

HL TD ICA IBA IBR MCA MCD MCR TD HL
65 8 vs 2 1 4 1
-------------------------------------------------------
8 --- 0--- 1 --- R---0---0---0---0 ---12 (+8beam from infantry)
88 --- 4 --- 8 --- R2--- 0--- 0--- 0 --- 0 --- 84 (+8)
88---122---15--- 8---R3---2 --- 1 ---0 ---0---95--- 40health lost
80 --- 100--- 25--- 8--- R4---2---1--- 1 --- 0---84--- 18
72 --- 80 --- 34 --- 8--- R5--- 2 ---1 --- 2--- 0 --- 66 ---18
56---62---40 --- 8 --- R6--- 2 --- 1 --- 3---0 --- 48 --- 18
24---50---43--- 8 --- R7 --- 2--- 1 --- 4--- 0 ---30--- 18
16 --- 44 --- 45 --- 8 --- R7--- 2 --- 1 --- 4---1---12---12

Looking at round 1, even with halved damage we should be dealing with at least 12 concussive vs 4 beam for 16 damage and at least 2 units killed, not one.

Rounds 4 and onward we are receiving about 18 damage from 100 damage attacks. Closest explanation is that we are receiving only 20% damage from the infantry?

Note on rounds 3 and 4 that the ranged infantry are KIA BEFORE the damage mechs. In other words, armor and damage mechs cannot shield ranged infantry from damage.

My math may be wrong, I've corrected it more than once, but the number of rounds and number of units KIA are exact copies from the battle report. In closing, despite any small errors I've made, some massive hidden bonuses and penalties far less intuitive than I had imagined are at play.

Those who unlock the code of the battles first are those who can discover the REAL best combinations taking into account the REAL damage done by the units. Message me if interesting in sharing further information. Just giving me copies of the battle reports you have collected would be good.

4 BVA v/s 2 CTA and 3 CTR

Round 1 (Range 3):
Damage dealt by side 1 on side 2: 0
Damage dealt by side 2 on side 1: 36/2 = 18
Losses side 1: 0
Losses side 2: 1 BVA

Round 2 (Range 2):
Damage dealt by side 1 on side 2: 0
Damage dealt by side 2 on side 1: 36/2 = 18
Losses side 1: 1 BVA
Losses side 2: 0

Round 3 (Range 3):
Damage dealt by side 1 on side 2: 8+4/2 = 6
Damage dealt by side 2 on side 1: 48/2 = 24
Losses side 1: 1 BVA (Total damage so far = 60, which leaves the last BVA on 4 hp)
Losses side 2: 0

Round 4 (Range 4):
Damage dealt by side 1 on side 2: 4+2/2 = 3
Damage dealt by side 2 on side 1: 48/2 = 24
Losses side 1: 1 BVA
Losses side 2: 0

I get the exact same values as the battle calc without any additional problem.
