Propaganda is always good. If you can convince the enemy of your superiority, they will be more cautious. If you can convince everyone that you're winning a war massively, they will be more likely to join your side.
And though battle reports are impressive, just a few words can make the difference between a 'oh look, someone got pwnt' and 'OMG what a defeat!'
