Nonsense, I watched Gundam and Dragon Ball Z as a kid to.

Pokemon, besides being a very wide and interesting world compared to many other anime's and series, has some of the best games ever made. Their gameplay is extraordinarily original and addictive by all means.

Now this is a debate.

Pokemon has one of the most cliched plots ever being repeated for more than 10. When I say many are saying Pokemon is THE best anime ever cus of nostalgia, it's beacuse many more anime have much more original plot than that of "Go to this Town" "Get a Badge" and "Lose and become a 2nd, 3rd, or 8th runner up" or something like that. But then again, it's a contender in so many people that don't really know where to look, but rather just sticking to what's "in" with the "anime-illiterate" people.

The only time it was great was in its first 8 seasons, as it was original. But it turned to simple cliches, too predictable for the normal anime watcher. I personally don't like people calling Pokemon the best anime ever if they seen only 10 or so anime. I despise people calling Pokemon the best anime ever if they only seen that.

You may call Best Anime Ever subjective, but for some here, that is a 1000+-player war. [One Anime versus a whole world of anime]

The game though, as cliched as it is, is enjoyable. =P It's just not original anymore =[

I don't know about Marcross yet.

One Piece is one of those anime whom people can "like" and not watch other animes too. The plot seems neverending. *which can be good or bad depending on the quality of the story*

For now, I'm neutral with these 2.

In the end, watching anime is the same thing as watching american series. In the end they end up exagerating any of the "qualities" of the american/japanesse desired characteristics (or stupidities).

Anime, series, anything that's TV transmited has been made with only 1 purpose... idiotize people. Enough to say... "I despise..."? I think yes, but in that case I despise anyone that has seen more than X number of TV hours a day/week/month, simply cause that may demonstrate either stupidity or not enough consiousness to do something more productive or less idiotizing...

That's what I think in the matter of the ideas of "I don't like anime" or "I don't like stupid series (eg. 2 & 1/2 men)".

Back on topic... mmmmm Dunno... I can't see how to consider pokemon the best anime ever when the plot became obvious and repetitive after the 1st region ended...

Difference is that 2 and a half men is a lot more mature and realistic- real people and yes it's comedical but the problems are realistic.

Anime tends to have a thing for colors of hair that couldn't possible exist, behavior that in the real world get you in an asylum and really I don't think it can be healthy for anyone above the age of 12.

I would like to point at the fact that when you go to a tour of 2 1/2 men you see normal guys with a good sence of humor.

When you go to an anime convention you see people dressed up like anime characters often found dating people they only know by their anime name praying day after day they can be in their favourite anime. Quite frankly "normal" series do exaggerate and do contain cliche's, Yes, but at least they represent some form of real life.

Anime isn't there because drawings are always more awesome then real images with actor's, it's there because you can't make people look half as crazy or, as I would put it, idiotic, then characters you draw.

Now your example and some others:

Now, I play Final Fantasy so I admit I have seen a few less likely characters, but they don't go much further then a clown with make up on.

Even Shion says so. Anime is rated according to the following usually:

1. Enjoyment
Pokemon would win at this area, but there are many other anime that can compete here.

2. Emotional Attachment
Pokemon would be average probably.

3. Originality
Pokemon fails at this one from S6~10 onwards.

4. Music
Pokemon (English) tops at this, while the Japanese ones are a BIG no for me (because it's Pokemon Japanese XD)

5. Plot Progression
Poor for Pokemon...=P Ash never gets beyond the Victory Road.

Sephiroth is NOT from an anime. Final Fantasy isn't an anime, it isn't anime related and it doesn't even smell like Anime (and I smelled it alright).

Sephiroth is, however, an emoboy that'l never weigh up to Kuja and Kefka ^_^
